Goatwhore Launches Studio Update!
NOLA's Blackened Death Metal masters Goatwhore, are currently working on their fifth studio album (set to be released in February of 2012) at Erik Rutan's Mana Studios in Tampa, Florida. Today the band posted a studio update on Metal Blade TV, which you can watch below. The video was shot and edited by the band and is the first in a series of videos that will chronicle the recording of the new album. The band is making quick progress and drums have already been completed.
"Tracking for the new record went very smoothly with the help of excellent equipment. I played a Pearl Reference kit with Sabian AA cymbals. The drums sound like canons of doom. Every time I hear the toms I want to break something because they sound so damn good. The AA's were a perfect match in their ability to cut through the thunder of the drums. This record is going to have a giant pair of balls hanging from it." - Drummer Zack Simmons
Once again, the band is working with legendary Heavy Music producer Erik Rutan, who has also produced the band's previous two efforts, "A Haunting Curse" and "Carving Out the Eyes of God".

Megadeth Announce NEW Album Details!
Today is a good day in Heavy Music! Thrash Metal titans Megadeth have just released a bunch of details regarding their 13th studio album, which we will infect us all this coming November. Here is the Official Press Release:
Megadeth, easily one of the most recognized and culturally significant names in Hard Rock music for the past three decades, are pleased to announce the forthcoming release of their thirteenth album, titled TH1RT3EN. The album will be released November 1, 2011 via Roadrunner Records. TH1RT3EN follows up 2009's Endgame, which was one of the most celebrated albums of the pioneering band's storied career. Anticipation is high and fans are anxious for a taste of new music from the legends, who have sold over 25 million albums globally throughout the course of their career, and they will get it imminently.
Dave Mustaine is incredibly proud of the music put forth on the new recording, saying, "This record is the culmination of my work over the 13 records I recorded. There are moments on TH1RT3EN that capture my every emotion, and other moments where I am releasing feelings I never knew existed! My proudest moments of my musical career are captured on TH1RT3EN.”
TH1RT3EN also marks the recorded return of bassist Dave Ellefson who was part of the band's classic lineup from 1983 to 2002. In a move that delighted the band's legion of diehards, Ellefson returned to performing live with Megadeth in early 2010 and has remained a fixture on the stage ever since. This is the first time Ellefson has played on a Megadeth record since 2002's Rude Awakening.
The title has several levels of meaning, which leader and guitar deity Dave Mustaine, who first picked up an axe at the age of 13, revealed in a recent chat with RollingStone.com, saying, "I was born on September 13th; this is my thirteenth record. It just seemed like it was the right thing to do to call it TH1RT3EN."
The band is spending its summer dominating and decimating the main stage of the fourth annual Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival alongside Godsmack and Disturbed. The band will cap off a busy and headline-making summer by performing as part of "The Big 4" once again, this time in New York at Yankee Stadium alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. The only previous "Big 4" show in the U.S. took place in April in Southern California.
The band also recorded an original track, "Never Dead," specifically for the NeverDead action-adventure video game franchise. "Never Dead" will appear on TH1RT3EN. Additionally, "Sudden Death" was recorded for Guitar Hero: Warriors Of Rock and will appear on the album.
With nine Grammy nominations under their bullet belts and having enjoyed five consecutive Platinum and multi-Platinum certifications, as well as seven Gold certifications during their career, Megadeth need no introduction. They've essentially written the book on Heavy Metal and Hard Rock, gaining momentum with each critically lauded release. In 2010, Mustaine released his first book, Mustaine: A Heavy Metal Memoir, which hit the New York Times bestseller list in hardcover (and is now being re-released in paperback). In a review, the Toronto Globe & Mail said, “Dave Mustaine’s memoir is the narrative of a struggling, hard-won music career. It is also a story of survival, redemption and faith… Dave Mustaine is a legend in Heavy Metal; he has written music that has inspired generations of fans, and he has proven that with faith, anything is possible. Transcending simple religion and music, Mustaine’s Heavy Metal Memoir will leave you moved and inspired (8/25/10).”
Here is an interview we conducted with drummer Shawn Drover, in which we discuss the bands new album, the Big 4 and more!

Devildriver's Guitarist to Miss South American Tour After Suffering Seizure
A few days before Devildriver embarked on their first South American tour, guitarist Mike Sprietzer suffered a seizure while shopping at a Ride Aid in California. Fortunately, after his doctors ran a series of tests it was determined that it was an isolated incident but that Sprietzer should stay home and rest. The band has decided to do the tour as a four piece since they didn't want to miss such a huge opportunity for them. Here is what Dez Fafara (Devildriver's frontman) Twitter about the situation:
"(Guitarist) Mike Sprietzer, has had a seizure and woke up in the emergency room. He is doing well. We are still coming just with One guitar player."
"Mike just text from the hospital and told us to GO! We've never done shows with one guitar player but don't want to let our fans down!"
This is what guitarist Mike Spreitzer of California had to say about the situation:
"Hey everybody. Thank you all so much for your concern. It means so much to me. I'm doing okay and I'm back home.
"I'm not sure why, but I had a seizure in a Rite Aid while I was picking up a few last-minute items for our South American tour. I collapsed and hit my head fairly hard. But the good news is all the tests results and CAT scan came back negative. So I've been ordered to rest and stay home. I'll be up and running for the next tour with ARCH ENEMY.
"I'm so upset that I can't go to South America. I was so excited.
"Thanks again for your concern and I love you all."
Since the band didn't have enough time to have Spreitzer replaced for this tour, Jeff Kendrick will be the sole guitarist. The six-date tour of South America and Mexico kicks off tomorrow (Wednesday, August 10) at Teatro Flores in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Here are all the tour dates.
Wednesday, August 10th 2011 - Buenos Aires, Argentina (Teatro Flores)
Thursday, August 11th 2011 - Santiago, Chile (Teatro Teleton)
Saturday, August 13th 2011 - Sao Paulo, Brazil (Carioca Club)
Sunday, August 14th 2011 - Curitba, Brazil (Music Hall)
Tuesday, August 16th 2011 - Bogota, Colombia (Teatro Metro)
Thursday, August 18th 2011 - Mexico City, Mexico (Circo Volador)
It has been a rough year for Devildriver. About a month ago bassist Aaron "Bubble" Patrick (ex-Bury Your Dead) suffered a back injury but was able to recover in time for the Heavy T.O. and Heavy MTL festivals in Toronto, Ontario and Montreal, Quebec, Canada, respectively. Bubble replaced former bassist Jonathan Miller, who quit the band in March. Click here to read about this.

Australia's "Soundwave Revolution" Festival Canceled!
We regret to inform to all our Australian headbangers that these years edition of the "Soundwave Revolution" Festival, has been canceled after the co-headlining band (which was supposed to be announced on August 1st) had to drop off from the show. Here is the Official statement from festival promoter AJ Maddah, who spoke with Australia's Nova 969 radio station,
"The festival as we know it has been canceled. The situation is that we were scheduled to make a second announcement on the first of August, which had our festival co-headliner on that announcement. Their circumstances changed at the last minute and they had to pull out. And unfortunately we don't have enough time to replace them. And we didn't really want to go ahead with an incomplete lineup.
"We were supposed to make the public announcement this evening anyway. But what we wanted to do — because a lot of those bands are still coming and we are creating packages and what have you, for them to do in clubs and other venues — we wanted to be able to make the full announcement at 1 PM. So that we could say the festival in its format is no longer happening [and] that these shows are taking its place. Unfortunately, one of those artists [drummer Stix Zadinia of STEEL PANTHER — Ed.] jumped the gun [and leaked the news of the festival cancellation via Twitter].
"The people that have already bought their tickets — I think it's nice enough that people that have already purchased their tickets by credit card, in which case those tickets are automatically refunded. And the small percentage that might have bought it from outlets, they'll be able to get a refund, I expect.
"Had we had been able to have our second headliner and make our second announcement, I think we wouldn't have had any issues with [the festival]. And it wasn't for the fact of not being able to attract the artists, I guess we were victims of certain artists' circumstances or what have you. I think the Australian festival market is still very strong.
"Obviously we love our fan base and we try to do what's best for them. And we could have taken the option of limping through with the lineup as we have [it] now. It still would have obviously been a much better financial outcome for us than to go through the road we have — but we just didn’t want to put an inferior product on the market.
"Revolution was a one-off, but yes, Soundwave 2012 will be back in February and the lineup is massive."

No Remission are Climbing "Through Blackened Skies" & Reaching for the Stars!
When we first heard No Remission's new album titled "Through Blackened Skies" (Produced by Billy Graziadei from Biohazard), our first question was "why is this band not out touring the entire country?" Not only did they write an amazing album, but whenever they get on stage they know exactly what to do to make everyone lose their minds. Vocalist/guitarist Will Checchi commands the stage with his ear piercing vocals and impressive guitar skills. There is no question that he is one of the most talented and versatile musicians in the New York City Heavy Music Scene. But lets not forget the rest of the band, guitarist Kurt Balogh is a perfect match to Checchi's shredding and their rhythm section is tighter than a boxing glove. Haven't seen them live yet? Well, we are joining forces with them on November 19th for a Metallic Thanksgiving throw-down! More details to be announced soon!
- Vital Statistics:
\m/ LINEUP:- Will Checchi (Guitar/Vocals)
- Kurt Balogh (Guitar)
- Greg Perlman (Drums)
- Dan Paprocki (Bass)
\m/ YEAR OF FORMATION: 2004
\m/ ORIGIN: Long Island, New York
\m/ MISSION: To stimulate all of your senses through Heavy Hard hitting music that will make you headbang out of control!
\m/ BIOGRAPHY:
Exploding onto the music scene in early 2004, No Remission is a powerful 4-piece Heavy Metal band from Westchester, NY. They have proven the very meaning of perseverance in establishing themselves among the underground NY/CT Metal scene. Relentless in their quest to push far beyond the barriers of mainstream predictability, this fearsome foursome has earned the respect in opening for acts Dying Fetus, Anal Cunt, and Marc Rizzo of Cavalera Conspiracy and Soulfly. Comprised of core influences to the likes of Pantera, Death, At The Gates, Iron Maiden, and Lamb Of God, No Remission has emerged successful in defining their very own signature sound. The band has just released their third full-length album, "Through Blackened Skies" which was mixed and produced by Billy Graziadei of Biohazard. With this new release, No Remission is driven in taking their music to a much larger audience.

Unearth's Trevor Phipps & Buz McGrath Discuss NEW Album & World Tour!
Unearth unleashed their fifth studio album titled "Darkness In the Light" on July 5th in North America via Metal Blade Records, and they proved once again that they sonically have what it takes to keep flying the Heavy Music flag up high with pride and plenty of adrenaline. The band is currently part of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival and have had no problem at all delivering their famous blend of hard hitting Hardcore Metal to the masses. With "Darkness In the Light" Unearth made it clear that they are not going to kiss ass to the status quo by compromising their sound, image, and vision of disorder.
Recently, the band performed in Hartford, Connecticut, as part of the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, and we had the chance to catch up with Unearth's vocalist Trevor Phipps and axe man Buzz McGrath right before the band took over center stage at the Jägermeister Stage. During the interviews we discussed their new album, life on the road, and their upcoming World Tour.
"I think this one is furthering our sound sine its more dynamic than our last couple of records. Its got a lot to offer... Its heavy! Its got melodic parts and great guitar work. I think the whole band band brought their A game." - Trevor Phipps
"Have a good time, all the time! I guess is our credo... We get up there, and try to convey the feelings that we have on stage of just having a good time to the people that are at the shows." - Buz McGrath
Without further due, here is our dual interview with Trevor and Buz from Unearth!

Behemoth's Nergal Featured on the Summer Issue of Terrorizer Magazine!
As we all know, Behemoth had to take a forced break when their vocalist/guitar Adam "Nergal" Darski was diagnosed with Leukemia early last year. In order for Nergal to get the treatment he needed, his fans united in order to find him a match that could donate some bone marrow in order for Nergal to be able to get a bone marrow transplant. Following the chemo therapy, and the bone marrow transplant, Nergal is cancer free!
In order to honor Poland's Heavy Metal ambassador, Terrorizer Magazine (The World's Most Dangerous Magazine) decided to make put Nergal on the cover of their Summer issue, along with in depth article about the Behemoth frontman! Here it is.
"I'm honored to be once again featured on the cover of most elite extreme Metal magazine! Its a very well written, in depth story I couldnt be more proud of. Read and enjoy!" - Nergal

Coheed and Cambria Dismiss Bassist Michael Todd
On July 10th, Coheed and Cambria bassists Michael Todd was arrested by Attleboro, MA Police, after showing a Walgreens pharmacist a note on his cell phone which said he had a bomb and that he wanted some Oxycontin. Oxycontin! Really? Then to make matters worse, he fled the scene via taxi with six bottles of pain pills. Police arrested him without any incidents outside of the Comcast Theater where Coheed and Cambria were scheduled to open up for Soundgarden (the band performed without him). He was charged with armed robbery and unlawful possession of prescription narcotics. He was released on July 25th after posting a $25,000 bail. Here is the Official statement from the band.
"After a lot of thought, introspection and discussion, Coheed and Cambria will be continuing our journey without bassist Michael Todd. We have spoken to him and this is a mutual decision between both parties. Michael was a great contributor; our hearts go out to his family and to all those who appreciate his talents. We wish him nothing but the very best.
"We are currently writing and recording songs for a new album, as well as a couple compilations this fall. We are very excited about how the songs are shaping up and can’t wait to share them with you.
"We'd like to thank Wes Styles for filling in for the live gigs in the interim, including the upcoming South America and Mexico shows. A belated thanks to Rob Gill for covering in Boston; and the biggest thank you to all of you for your unwavering support.
"A new chapter awaits." - Coheed and Cambria

Machine Head "Unto The Locust" Cover Art, Track Listing & Metal Hammer Special Edition!
After the success of "The Blackening", Machine Head decided that they were going to close the door on that album, and create something fresh sounding. With the current lineup (Robb Flynn: Vocals/Guitars, Phil Demmel: Guitars, Adam Duce: Bass, Dave McClain: Drums), Machine Head has finally found the stability needed for their music to grow like a monster. After the results of their two previous album (Through Ashes of Empres & The Blackening) the band has definitely proved that they the know exactly how to combine different sonic elements that can ensure them that the headbangers of the world lose their minds to their powerful music.
Machine Head have finished mixing their seventh studio album titled "Unto the Locust" (to be released on September 26/27, 2011 via Roadrunner Records), and are currently destroying stages at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival were we had the chance to chat with Phil Demmel and Dave McClain about the new album (see below). The band will also be touring Australia and South America before the end of the year (tour-dates below).
Here is the track listing for "Unto The Locust" (Cover Art below):

Additionally, Metal Hammer are set to release Machine Head's next album "Unto The Locust" in the UK with a special edition album fan-pack! Complete with 132-page special issue with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the making of the new album, extensive interviews with every member, never-before-seen historic shots from the band's personal collections, a guide to their custom rigs, and a diary of their massive Mayhem tour happening this summer, this is the ultimate companion to the long-awaited follow-up to The Blackening, Metal Hammer's album of the decade. And that's not all! This exclusive fanpack also includes a 100% official patch, sticker sheet and poster. This is your chance to be part of Machine Head history!
"This is gonna be fucking awesome! It's ridiculous," says Robb Flynn of the venture. "I can't believe that there's going to be a magazine about us with a special edition of our new album. It's pretty mind-blowing, really. It's something really fucking cool for the fans, and it's something incredible for us too. We're all really stoked on this new record and we can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been doing in the studio. Releasing it this way on newsstands (not just record stores) makes it way cooler! You guys know how to make magazines, man! People over here in the US need to look at the UK and how you make magazines. You guys make people care about this stuff and you're real music fans. Get your niche and fuckin' ride it! People want cool shit and cool interviews. We're pumped about the whole idea!"
Cover Art of "Unto The Locust":
"It is a different record then 'The Blackening', but we feel like we stepped our game up again." - Phil Demmel
"We are super proud of this record. In the last three albums, including this one, we've had complete musical freedom to do what we want to do. It is the first time we have the same lineup for more than two records. We feel that as much as we love 'The Blackening', we feel really proud of this one and are certain that people will feel the same way about this record as they did with 'Through the Ashes of Empires' and 'The Blackening". - Dave McClain
